The purpose of Dressage is the harmonious development of the physique and ability of the horse. As a result, it makes the horse calm, supple, and keen, thus achieving perfect understanding with its rider.
Marking
Each of the movements in the test and the four sets of collective marks are awarded good marks from zero to 10 by each of the judges. These good marks are added together, deducting any error of course or test. For each judge, percentage of maximum possible good marks obtainable is then calculated, rounding the result to two decimal digits. This value is shown as the individual mark for that judge.
Average percentage for the competitor is obtained by adding together the percentage for each judge and dividing by the number of judges, always rounding the result to two decimal digits.
In order to convert average percentage into penalty points, the average percentage must be subtracted from 100 and multiplied by 1.5. The result is the score in penalty points for the test.
